Part B: Long Essay
Write a well-organized essay of approximately 1500 words on one of the following topics.

Identify a current criminal justice issue in the news that concerns the exploitation or inequality of women. Then, define the three feminist theoretical approaches—liberal, socialist, and radical—identified on page 119 in the Kramar text. Apply each of these to the issue you’ve identified. Finally, evaluate the perspectives. Which do you think is most useful to explain this issue, and why?

Compare the situation of immigrant women to others affected by domestic violence as identified in the readings by MacLeod and Singh. What are the additional issues faced by immigrant and refugee women, and how do these challenge domestic violence policy?

Identify four dominant explanations of the linkage between race and overincarceration discussed in the course, and give an example of each. Which is most valid, and why?

Using Canadian sources, discuss the concept of colour coding or racial profiling. You may want to read newspapers, go to the library, or use other means of gathering information. You should be able to locate material, perhaps from a minority community in Canada, to investigate the existence and impacts of colour codes. Be sure to contextualize your discussion with reference to the readings in this unit.
