Answer the following question in an essay not exceeding 2500 words by Part A, Part B, and Part C.
Why are science graduates overrepresented among religious radicals?
1) In particular, focus on the following questions and in the essay answer them coherently in parts (A,B,C) start by :
A. What socio-economic factors may play a role in explaining why in some social contexts
engineering and medical graduates are more attracted to radical religious ideologies?
In your discussion, evaluate the use of ‘relative deprivation theory’ to explain the
phenomenon.
B. What social psychological factors may play a role in explaining why certain individual
adherents of radical religious ideologies are attracted to the natural sciences? In your
discussion, critically examine psychological research on the relationship between
personality types and social and political orientations.
C. Reflect on and illustrate what it is in the nature of the social sciences and humanities
that makes their graduates less attracted to radical religious ideologies. And what is it
in the nature of engineering and medicine (and maybe other applied or technological
subjects) that makes them attractive to religious radicals?
