Research Paper #2: Introduction to Topic
The Introduction for an experimental or empirical research paper establishes the context of the research and briefly discusses relevant literature. This paper serves as an introduction to the selected topic, including an introduction to the problem, important terminology and definitions, and the importance of the problem. You should BRIEFLY explain why the question is important, provide a brief history of the question or topic, and describe theories that are relevant to the study you will describe. You should present the tentative hypothesis/hypotheses that you will test in your study. You should also indicate how your study will allow you to TEST the hypothesis. You should also define any key terms.
The Introduction to the Topic MUST address the following criteria:
What is your topic?
Why is this topic important?
What is the history of this topic (e.g., when was it first studied and by whom)?
How do you define your key constructs and terms (use scholarly definitions; do not include definitions from websters, Wikipedia, or any other dictionary)?
What are the related theories?
What is your research question?
What is your hypothesis?
You must include a Reference list in APA style. The reference list should be labeled as References (per the requirements for APA style). The citations in your reference list must also be in APA style.
My topic/hypothesis is:
What is the relationship between alcohol use and GPA among college students?
