Assignment: Write a three to four page paper on the following question: How were the worlds of white servants and black slaves similar? What were the most significant differences between them?
To cite your sources, use footnotes! Then type the name of the publication and the date, which are printed above the text of each advertisement. For instance:
Virginia Gazette, April 25, 1766.
If you want to quote any of my lectures, then you can cite them like this using the subject of the lecture. A date would be helpful.

The paper should be a short but formal essay, written in a Word document (or equivalent) 12-point font with appropriate margins. Upload the paper into Canvas via the link provided.

In grading the papers, I will be looking for three things: First, a strong argument. Second, good use of evidence backing up your thesis. And third, grammar and organization.
By “strong argument,” I mean that I want you to really convince me of something using those slave advertisements. Find specific examples that demonstrate your point of view.
Finally, be careful to write clearly and persuasively. Simple sentences and well organized paragraphs make for more persuasive papers.
Please write in a 12-point font, double space, with appropriate margins. Title your paper and remember to include page numbers!
