Compose a 1.5-page, informal proposal for your research project. This purpose of this proposal is two-fold. First, it will allow readers to see your topic and provide you with feedback. Second, it will help you develop your topic and strategies for research.
The first paragraph of the proposal should provide a brief introduction to the problem or conflict you will be writing about.
The second paragraph should explain why this issue matters. What is your personal motivation for choosing this issue? What is the wider social or scholarly exigency behind the issue that makes it an important conversation to join?
The third paragraph should describe what you need to learn about the issue: what information or arguments do you need to look for in order to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the issue? What sorts of people might be writing about this issue in a way that is meaningful for your essay?
The fourth paragraph should briefly describe the audience or audiences to whom you would be addressing the project. Who has a stake or interest in the issue? Who needs to be informed about it or persuaded to consider your ideas?
The fifth paragraph should briefly describe two sources that you have found that are related to your topic. These will serve as a “proof of concept” – that the issue you have chosen is in fact a topic of public discussion. At the bottom of the second page, provide a works cited entry in MLA or APA 6th edition format for each of these sources.
