Begin by carefully reading the stories, taking notes, looking up any words that do not make clear sense, and noting any literary aspects that are interesting. Pay special attention to ways that the stories are similar or are different. You can find copies of the stories to read in Module 3, in the Compare and Contrast Essay Assignment Documents and Drop Boxes section. Please use GALILEO to search for scholarly articles about the stories, use this course and the library for information about MLA format, and read about literary terms and literary analysis in the Week 4 folder.
1. Your essay should have an introduction that: a. Piques the reader’s interest b. Establishes the context for your discussion (including titles and authors of texts) c. Leads up to and includes your thesis
2. Your essay should have paragraphs that each include: a. A clear topic sentence that tells what you are comparing and contrasting regarding the two stories b. Multiple pieces of direct evidence, in the form of quotations and paraphrases, taken from the stories c. Analysis and interpretation of evidence to develop your argument d. Transitions between points
3. Your essay should have a conclusion that: a. Revisits the main points of your essay b. Connects those points and draws out their implications c. Answers the question, so what? Or, what now?
4. Your essay should have a Works Cited page
Submission format: Your paper should be 600-800 words and in MLA format. (Please include your word count after the body of your essay).
