(Photograph + Caption/Title (up to 2200 characters) + 300-500 Word Explanation; 12pt font; 1.5-spaced; APA referencing)
For this assignment, you are asked to select one theme/week from the course. You are to create an original post that includes:
a photograph (your own work)
a caption/title
a description of the photograph which highlights the ways in which the photograph depicts the course or reading themes for the week
a reference to the course reading(s) you are drawing from both in-text and in a bibliography
You are encouraged to think about how course themes are visually manifested within the city through your own everyday interactions. Draw upon the course readings to explain these visual manifestations.
Key things to consider:
How does this photo depict or reference the pop culture phenomena or concept that you read about?
Does your caption add value to your Instagram post?
What connections are you drawing between the readings and contemporary Toronto?
You will be evaluated based on the connections made between the photograph and the course themes. While you are encouraged to be creative, note that you are not going to be judged based on the aesthetic quality of your photography. Photos may be in square (instagram) format or traditional dimensions.
The TAs will post your photo, caption, and hashtags on the course Instagram Account: cities_in_popular_culture
Before you submit your assignment, please ensure that written component is either a .doc or
.pdf. Be sure to attach the picture separately from the written file. The written file should also
include the picture, however, in order to post the picture to Instagram, the picture file must be
submitted separately.
Click on the “Assignment” Tab on the left column
Click the “Instagram Assignment” module
In the top right corner, press the “Submit Assignment” Button
Click “choose file” to submit the text file from your computer
Click “attach another file” and attach the picture
Click “Submit Assignment” to submit the assignment
