The Research Paper, four to six pages (excluding title and references pages), should demonstrate an understanding of the reading assignments as well as the acquisition and synthesis of new knowledge. The purpose of the Research Paper is for you to explore the pharmacologic treatment of a disease, disease process, or condition.
For your final paper select a disease that is relevant to the class, for example, hypertension. Describe the basic pathophysiology and the different categories of drugs that are used for treatment. For each category, identify the prototype drug and discuss the indications, contraindications, mechanism of action, pharmacokinetics, side effects, adverse effects, toxic effects, interactions, and precautions.
You must use at least three to five academic sources or peer-reviewed journals written within the last ten years. One source may be the course text and another may be the PDR or similar drug reference guide.
• Must be four to six double-spaced pages in length and formatted according to APA style as outlined in your approved style guide to include the correct font type and size.
• Must include a cover page with the following information: (sample attached)

• Name of paper
• Instructor’s name
• Date submitted
• Must include an introductory paragraph with a succinct thesis statement.
• Must address the topic of the paper with critical thought.
• Must conclude with a restatement of the thesis and a conclusion paragraph.

• Must include, on the final page, a Reference List that is completed according to APA style as outlined in your approved style guide.
