During the past few weeks, we have been learning about ‘color-blind racism’ in America and how it manifests in society via every day verbiage (remember Max Weber’s Symbolic Interactionism?). As we’ve observed, there’s a clear pattern to be detected upon examining the myriad of-usually subtle-machinations, systemically converging to create such rigid, ‘mainstream’ lines that are drawn in the sand.
Having said that, is this course changing your (predisposed) view/perception on racism? Why, why not? (In other words, are your opinions on Racism that you held before this class changing? In what way? If they are not, how is this class reinforcing your already established opinion?)
I recommend you starting your paper after finishing Chapter 4 in the book. By then, you will have gained enough information to form an opinion and flesh it out in a research paper!
Assignment Requirements:
You may tackle the aforementioned question any way you want, as long as you’re actually answering the question (read: allow your imagination free rein).
This is a research paper. Write objectively, not subjectively (personal opinion is to be supported by sources). At least 3-5 sources for your bibliography (apart from the book). Include all sources, whether actually included in the paper or not.
Times New Roman font. 1.5 Spacing. Between 2-3 pages.
Include your citations (in-text or footnotes are fine). Format: Chicago. There are websites that can help you with correct citation and bibliography-building.
*Stance is that racism is still an issue today.
