One observer compared certain aspects of US
involvement in the Spanish-American War with the
more recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. In
particular, they argued that the US acted too hastily in
getting involved and that US involvement was not
justified at all. In regard to the Spanish-American War,
do you agree or disagree, and why? Do you think that
Cubans would have been able to secure their
independence without US assistance?
