INSTRUCTIONS
The purpose of this paper is to improve your written articulacy of health problems. We will put this paper, once it is finished, to your own advocacy for improved health policies with stakeholders & policymakers. This is not a research thesis paper, so please do not say: “this researcher says this….”. No direct quotes – just explain clearly what you mean. Remember that you are “translating” what you have understood into understandable “bytes” for stakeholders & policymakers to expand their grasp of the issues.
You should also use the analytical tools you will be given in the first 2 weeks of class, like Biopsychosocial micro-, meso- & macro levels, Social Determinants of Health, Global Burden of Disease, Salutogenesis, & Sense of Coherence contributing to explaining disease or condition pathogenesis.
Stick to this paper’s structure & follow your outline to help it flow logically. This is your opportunity to summarize your medical topic. Please do not get carried away with tangential issues. Be logical, clear, & purposeful.
Once you have a better understanding of how the US health care system works, we will use this paper to prepare presentations on policies about this medical problem.
It is assumed that both partners will do their fair share of the work, will have discussed the paper together so you both agree with what is written, & will be considerate of the other partner’s time & efforts. If this is not the case, please ensure that I am aware of the problem, so we can solve it.
Please go over this checklist of tips before submission!
• Write a title focused upon explaining the topic you will explore
• Recheck your paper to see if you have constructed it according to these Instructions.
• Put your paper through Grammarly, even if your English is perfect.
• Submit your paper into the Safe Assign slot
• Only one person submits the paper – but write both names on it. The same grade will be posted for both partners.
Each team pair will please summarize the illness or injuries of the topics below. I have included a few Pubmed references to get you started. But it is up to you to find current peer-reviewed evidence-based references 2018-2023, beginning with the most recent ones. Please find at least 10 scientific references for this paper, each of which will be cited in the text. (Please only use the CDC for epidemiological statistics & Wikipedia to clarify your own understanding, since both are older & not peer-reviewed current literature for professionals. Please do not use popular websites or hospital websites for the public).
This assignment is the first step in your preparing your final policy presentation. You will incorporate what you have learned from this first paper. It is important to understand the medical condition/problem thoroughly before knowing which policy strategy to take in preventing it. Sometimes I attached a few existing policy, legislative, health promotion initiative references to use in your final class presentation once you have completed the scientific groundwork for your policy campaign in this Epi & Patho paper.
Here are the topics which we will agree upon for each partnership & a few references to get you started:
