In her reading, “Gender in Magazines” (p. 184), Rosalind Gill describes five discernible shifts in magazine content that are now staples today:
1. An increasing focus on celebrity
2. The dramatic sexualization of the body
3. The increasing adoption of feminist discourses
4. A focus on work outside as well as inside the home
5. An increasing emphasis on heterosexual sex
You are to analyze a Women’s Magazine of your choice (a Men’s Magazine may also work) in order to apply Gill’s discernible shifts. Clearly identify and explain how the article relates to Gill’s shifts. Typically this will be 1-to-2 paragraphs for each article. See attached assignment sheet for more information.
