Identify a problem and propose a solution to it. Your essay should first lay out the specific details of the problem, giving relevant background information and examples of effects of the problem. Then you should present your solution, showing how it will help to alleviate the effects of the problem. Be sure to address concerns people might have about your solution, and also consider alternative solutions to show why yours is the preferable one. Be careful to keep your focus narrow and to not just offer a list of generic suggestions but rather a specific, developed solution. Nor should your proposal merely amount to “somebody should do something.” You should support your proposal with at least three different relevant sources, including at least one scholarly source, which may be used either to clarify the background of the problem, or confirm the potential effectiveness of your proposed solution.
