There is no need for elaborate introductory and concluding paragraphs. I do not expect you to
do extra research, although you are allowed to use other academic sources (i.e. no Wikipedia,
online student papers, or blogs). As with every academic paper, all assignments will be checked
for plagiarism.
In your short paper, focus on one or more of the following aspects: situate the novel in time and
place (when and where does the story take place, and why is that relavant for a reading of the
novel); discuss the main themes of the novel, the narrator(s), and the novel’s use of symbols or
motifs; make the link with the American Cultural History and give a personal appreciation of your reading experience (does the novel stimulate you to read more, for example)
