There is measurable growth on the way to becoming a teacher. Whether it may be in practice, theoretical knowledge, or in researched writing, an educator can see advancement (even if it is little by little) over time. Two authors encourage growth in a specific way when they write that an educator “challenges him or herself to take risks, to invent and reinvent, and to take on active and lifelong inquiries” (Lin & Cranton, 2005, p. 449). How can you “take risks” in the area of teaching at this stage in your education? How can you “invent” or “reinvent” elements in your teaching or instruction? What does it really mean to take academic “risks” as a graduate student?
