Directions:
In this at least four page essay, you will evaluate an article through the lens of “effective writing.” You will analyze both what the author says (content/logic) and how they say it (rhetoric/grammar). How, in other words, does the article demonstrate or not demonstrate “effective writing practices”? What types of sentences are used (simple or complex) and how effective are they? Does the author try to appeal to emotions, logic, or their own credibility?
Are claims logically sound, even if you don’t agree with them? What audience may the tone and diction be attempting to appeal to?
You must quote and cite the article you are evaluating. For more evidence and support, you are also welcome to quote the secondary readings we have done in this unit (the sources on writing strategies and grammar). You are also welcome to use anecdotes about your own digital media use to counter the writer’s ideas and logic.
