First, summarize the meat of the reading (not only the first page), its important
idea, essential components, etc. Start by introducing the author and the reading,
include ALL important components and ideas, and explain specific concepts or terms to
readers unfamiliar with the reading.
Second, reflect on what the authors have argued. You might agree or disagree
with parts of their argument, give examples of your personal experiences, reveal
other aspects of the phenomena, critique the paper’s perspective, etc.
Please note that the summary portion should NOT be longer than the reflection.
Avoid repeating the authors’ arguments. Reflect CRITICALLY on the main
claims, findings, or even the form and structure of the paper or give insightful
examples to clarify and support/reject the argument.
