Most of early modern Europe was ruled by kings and queens. Using the visual and textual evidence identified below, analyze the ideals and practices of rulership found across Renaissance Europe. Explain what this tell us about the relationship between the ruler’s person, including gender, and the office of ruler. How closely did the actual rule of monarchs embody the ideals associated with their crowns? What kinds of power did kings claim or seek to project? What kind of power did they really wield?
