This project is a reflection of the lessons throughout the course applied to one company, so
choose wisely. This assignment, due week 11 is worth 20% of the course grade, and all
members of the same team will receive the same grade.
Select a team of up to 3 students (or you can go solo)
• Choose any major company (it could be one you work for or have worked for). The
company must have a website with basic corporate information provided to qualify
• Submit your company of choice and team info to Course Discussion Forum for
professor’s approval prior to beginning; please include a company website. Since
no two teams may use the same company, it will be on a first come, first-served
basis as to who gets what, so choose early. Note: please do not submit team
member’s names unless those people actually agreed to be on your team.
Using the following guidelines, discuss the operations management aspects of your selected
company followed by your recommendations for improvement. Limit your response for each
question to a maximum of 1 – 2 pages. Your final report should be submitted by Friday of
week 11.
• Identify the inputs and outputs of the company
• Who are the customers and suppliers of the company? (don’t name specific ones,
just name the general types of customers)
• How can customer value be measured for their customers?
• What is the mission of the company? What implications does this mission have for
their strategic operations management decisions (e.g., workforce, capacity,
scheduling…)
• Explain the TQM principles that are being applied in the company
1. Name one way in which this company is “out of the box” in its thinking, if applicable. How does this set them apart from their competition and how does it make a difference?
2. Be a Jonah. If you were brought in as the wise consultant to fix or improve the company, name at least one thing you would recommend and why. It could be in regard to their metrics, their processes, their quality, their supply chain or just about anything that would help to bring them toward their goal of making money
