In this assignment students will work in pairs to briefly (7-minute presentation; 5-minute Q&A) present a policy that has been discussed, enacted, or repealed in the last 5 years relevant to social work and social welfare. Students will present a short overview of: (1) the social issue/background, (2) the contents of the policy, (3) a critique of it based on course content, and (4) suggestions for improvements or additions.
Students will need to get approval from the instructor for their chosen policy at least 1 week prior to their presentation.
Policies can be at any systemic level, but they must be written in such a way that has clear relevance to social work. Presentations should include the following slides/information:
Title slide
Social issue/background
Policy goals & objectives
Population(s) affected
Critique (is it effective, efficient, and adequate)
Alignment with specific SW values
Suggestions
