Reading and Writing Research Project 100 points
The purpose of this project is a) to enhance your knowledge and awareness about various commercial reading and writing interventions, and b) to provide you an opportunity to objectively evaluate commercial reading and writing interventions.

While reviewing the reading program, the following points should be kept in mind:
Basic Rationale for the program: What are the program’s purpose, focus, and goals? Who is the target population (i.e., who will benefit the most by using this program)? What is the scope and sequence of this program? If possible, brief history of the program.
Theoretical Perspective contributing to the program’s design: Is the program based on cognitive theory, socio-linguistic theory, a direct instructional model, a visual-perceptual model, etc.?
Research Support: Is there any research conducted to validate the effectiveness of the program? If not, is the program based on research-based principles?
Curriculum and instructional method used in the program: Is professional training required to use this program, describe materials, assessment procedures, and instructional methods, and if possible, demonstrate what the instruction “looks like.” Also, describe basic teaching methods used to deliver instruction. Notice whether the teacher’s lesson plans are highly scriipted or moderately scriipted.
