Detailed Instructions for Essay Assignment:
For this essay assignment, please prepare a 1,250-1,500-word essay. Please note that the required Reference section at the end of each essay is not included in this word count. Also, please note that each assignment includes multiple questions. Your word count limit is for all the questions combined in each assignment; therefore, concise, yet thorough writing is a requisite. Each essay must provide sub-titles to separate your answers to each of the questions in each assignment. For example, in the Essay Assignment 2, the following sub-topics should be shown in the essay:
Discuss the risks that nonprofit organizations face and list, then describe, the types of insurance coverage recommended for each type of risk.
Then, summarize the legal requirements to maintain a nonprofit status for an organization. Be sure to explain the “Private Inurement Doctrine,” the “Private Benefit Doctrine,” and the “Intermediate Sanctions Rules.”
Then, briefly explain the Volunteer Protection Act and how it has been applied to nonprofit organizations, both within the courts and outside of the courts.
Finally, briefly explain the constraints nonprofits have in terms of legislative campaigning, lobbying, and election activities.
Each essay is worth 15 points and grading will be based on how thorough, yet concise the essay is written and how well it specifically responds to the assignment. Extraneous information (i.e. information that does not directly respond to the assignment) is not acceptable. Sentence structure, grammar, organization, proper citations (must be APA style), and a reference section (must be APA style) will all be important considerations in the grade. Please be sure to note that this essay assignment must cite and reference at least 5 different sources and at least 2 of these sources must be from a source not found on the syllabus; thus, requiring some independent research. No assignment will be accepted unless all sources of information have been properly cited and referenced.
