For this draft you will work on just on using ELEMENTS OF ART to talk about your selected artwork. Remember there are 10 of them:
1) Line (type of line straight, jagged, meandering, broken, calligraphic, contour, outline, implied etc.)
2) Shape* (organic/biomorphic or geometric)
3) Mass / Volume (form)
4) Space (overlapping, size, placement, or shading)
5) Perspective (atmospheric or linear)
6) Value (light)
7) Color
8) Texture (actual or simulated)
9) Time
10) Motion
First Paragraph:
IDENTIFY and DESCRIBE the work. Briefly introduce the work, offering caption information for the artist, title, medium and year. Give a very brief summary or overview of the work’s subject matter. Briefly describe anything distinctive about the work’s medium and/or application with relation to the overall composition.
In this paragraph you have to include:
name of the artist
title of the artwork
year it was created
dimensions of the artwork
media the artwork is made in
location of the artwork (name of museum and city)
genre the artwork belongs to (still life, portrait, landscape, etc)*
type of visual art (representational, abstract or non-objective)
ANALYZE the key ELEMENTS OF ART in the work. Describe what role the elements play in the composition. (line, shape/space, mass/volume, perspective, texture, color, time and motion). Use the elements of art as the foundation in this paragraph, supplementing your writing with learned art terminology. ALL the terms need to be in BOLD and all caps.
