Synthetic Memos (25%): You will write two synthetic memos (the first is worth 10% and the second 15%
of your final grade) in which you synthesize and react to the assigned readings. The purpose of these memos
is to synthesize the assigned readings and class discussions (including any materials presented in class).
Memos should briefly summarize and discuss the central issues presented in the assigned readings. Further,
they should engage topics and themes that connect each reading into a cohesive document. In these memos
you will engage with the texts while leveraging pre-identified concepts from They Say/I Say. All
assignments must be uploaded as Microsoft Word documents to Brightspace by 5PM on the date they are
due. Due dates are noted in the schedule, below.
For all memos, you have four pages (not including references). You should use 1.5 spacing and Times New
Roman as your font (size 12).
For more detailed information, including which concepts from They Say/I Say, which you will need to
incorporate into the memos see the document posted on Brightspace. Note, you are responsible for reading
the corresponding materials in They Say/I Say as part of these assignments, even when they are not formally
listed as readings on the syllabus. Late submissions will result in a five percent deduction from the overall
grade for each 24 hours the assignment is late.
