What if someone close to you tells the police that you had converted to Islam and have connections to al-Qaeda. You then were arrested as a suspected terrorist and tortured while in custody. You are not a terrorist, and you have no connections to al-Qaeda. Do you think the government would believe you? How much torture is necessary to get the “truth?” Would you make up stories and implicate others to stop the torture if they didn’t believe you? How valid do you think information from tortured individuals is?
