Now that you have a solid understanding of cultural diversity and cultural competence, we can focus on the concept of culturally relevant and anti-bias education. According to Curenton and Iruka (2013), “Culturally relevant, anti-bias instruction encompasses all aspects of development—cognitive, social-emotional, and physical. It is grounded in the science of child development and evidence-based early childhood practice” (section. 3.2). In order to bring this type of instruction to life, we must base it on the three foundations of culturally relevant and anti-bias curriculum. These foundations are as follows:
