Choose a research topic that interests you and that can be explored in a qualitative
way. You may choose a topic on ANY theme/topic (and in any relevant location) relating
to human experience
EXCEPT for the following areas:
– Eating disorders, body dysmorphia, body image issues, obesity
– Online culture/communities, social media, social networking
– Correctional facilities/prisons/detention centres
– Undercover ethnography
– Mental health
2) Once you have picked a topic:
– In a maximum of two written pages, state your Problem Statement, your
preliminary Research Question and one sub question, and provide an outline of key
background information (i.e. a preliminary literature review) on the issue that includes at
least four cited academic references.
– Remember that your proposal must ask questions that can be answered
qualitatively.
– Use in-text citations (not footnote citations)
– Ensure that your reference format is complete and consistent
– Include your full academic references on a separate page. Note that the
reference page does not count in the 2-page limit.
