Young people today are inheriting a world of massive, cascading crisis: the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic the growing failures of capitalism , mounting climate disruption , the mass extinction of species , and the threat of nuclear war Global civilization may be reaching the limits that scientists and activists have warned against for many decades limits to growth in population , to the exploitation and pollution of the natural world , and to the economic exploitation of each other Humanity faces the urgent task of rethinking and transforming many of the institutions , technologies , and cultural values that have shaped the present -day world, if civilized society is to survive. As individuals , we face an uncertain in which our society’s expectations of continuous advance and growth in standard of living has already begun to falter.
