PICK A SIDE: Does the “winner” of The Hunger Games win?
Whether you choose YES or NO, you must come up with 3 reasons to support your claim. In other words, if you think they DO “win,” why do you think that?
No “I,” “me,” or “my” in this essay. Be objective.
The Introduction introduces your CLAIM (Yes/No). The Introduction should be at least 5 sentences in length. At the end of the Introduction, you should have a 3-part THESIS STATEMENT. In other words: The “winner” of the Hunger Games (DOES/DOES NOT) truly “win” because (reason 1), (reason 2), and (reason 3).
3 Body paragraphs (1 for each reason) of at least 3 sentences each contain the argument for the “reason.” Paragraphs should contain evidence from the book, to support each reason. *One quote per paragraph is required. The evidence must be CITED, complete with page numbers. **Then, you need to explain how the quote support your argument.
Remember, to CITE means that you take a direct quote from the book to use as evidence/ support for your reason. Quotes must be IDENTICAL to the book (you must have the exact same capitalization, punctuation, etc.).
For Example (CORRECT):
“In fact, I wonder if the Gamemakers are blocking out our conversation, because even though the information seems harmless, they don’t want people in different districts to know about one another” (pg. 203).
INCORRECT:
“I wonder if the GameMakers are blocking our conversation, even though the information seems harmless they don’t want people in different Districts to know about each other.” (pg. 203)
Your Conclusion should restate your Thesis, remind the reader of your 3 main arguments, and then close with a bold statement or question.
