Descriptive Writing
What is Descriptive Writing?
•Writing that reports the testimony of your senses
•Invited readers to hear, see, smell and touch the subject that you describe.
•Two purposes:
•Objective Description- describe so your readers understand; lacks emotion. Examples: instructions, a book report, driving directions, the parts of a car
•Subjective Description- Uses emotion and bias
•Good description can make all kinds of writing (comparing/analyzing, argument) meaningful and impactful.

How Do I Write Descriptively?
Before You Write, Consider:
•Subject:
•What do you want to describe to your Audience? Should be something important to you.
•Audience:
•Who are you writing to? What do they know? What don’t they know?
•Purpose:
•What do I want my audience to learn about my subject? What impression do I want them to be left with? Think of this as your thesis.
