American Dream (1990) and Capitalism: A Love Story (2009) diagnose the degradation of work and workers’ rights in post-Reagan, neoliberal America. However, although they share the same subject matter and emphases, their approaches diverge in significant ways. How should one describe these differences? That is, how do the films’ respective methods for representing workers and their increasing vulnerability differ? How are viewers thereby directed to understand the central events in each film?
