The purpose of this self-analysis research paper is for you to analyze and understand your own developmental journey in a way that will enhance your understanding of human development that may be applied to your future counseling practice.
For paper 1, you will demonstrate your knowledge of the stages of early childhood development by analyzing your own development in light of the major theories explained thus far in class.
For paper 1, students must choose (a) either Erikson or PsychoSexual and (b) Attachment Theory to analyze your own development in light of those theories. In short, explain each stage of Erikson or PsychoSexual theory and then analyze your own development for that stage. Then go to the next stage, explain it, and analyze your own development. Finally, explain attachment theory and analyze your own attachment as a child.
When analyzing your development, describe specific events for each stage of development you have experienced AND each stage you have yet to experience. Make hypotheses regarding the possible content of a stage or how a certain event could potentially impact their development or may have impacted development differently.
You can use hypothetical examples to strengthen various aspects of your paper for which you may have less lived experience.
Typically, COUN 5670 Paper 1 is around 8 pages of content, not including cover page or references. Some students’ papers are longer and others’ are a little shorter. The key is to explain each stage and apply it to yourself and then explain attachment and apply it to yourself. However long it takes you is fine.
