You have been asked to join the other two interns at the invented clinic and present on personality theory and therapies that reflect interpersonal dynamics rather than the unconscious activity from psychodynamic approaches. Everyone has clients that include a couple, a child, an adolescent. The focus is on Carl Rogers, Harry Stack Sullivan, Erik Erikson.
TASK:
Decide if they wish to present on their couple, their child client, or the adolescent. It does not matter if you present on a child or couple or teen. It is theory that matters.
Everyone should contribute to the Reference list in APA format articles, books, videos on the three theorists
Gather the definitions of core ideas for separate paragraphs (fully cited definitions for two core ideas each from: Carl Rogers, Harry Stack Sullivan, Erik Erikson. (total 6)
Theory: Suggestions to select for core ideas:
Sullivan select two . . . interpersonal anxiety, self-system, name the four interview stages, or name six developmental Epochs
Rogers select two . . . Empathy, client-centered, congruence, authenticity, non-directive therapy
Erikson briefly describe one of Erikson’s 8 developmental stages
Client Slides: Present three clients (or TWO clients if creating the discussion solo).
Place one sentence at the top of each paragraph describing your client – the couple or the child or teen. Be sure your own name is on the client slide so that I know who the therapist is.
Here is how to compose a succinct description of your client invent your own clients, e.g. “Tom, 14 yr. old, anxiety, bullied for learning disability, stressed with parents and peers” . . . OR “Zack and Julia, a couple for five years, no addictions, struggle sharing honest emotions” OR “Lil, 7 yr. old, grieving the loss of her sibling from disease or accident”.
Under the client description, state the interpersonal theory you used. How did you apply the theory, one or two core ideas with this client?
TIP: With the child client use Child-Centered play therapy which emerged from Roger’s theory. Be sure to define Child-Centered play therapy, and what activity you used with the child.
