Write a response paper in which you summarize, compare, and respond to at least 2 texts, one of which is “What is Literacy?” by JP Gee or “Motivating Personal Growth by Seeking Discomfort” by Woolley and Fishbach. The other text can be any peer-reviewed article on a similar subject. For Gee, similar topics would include discourse, literacy, composition, communication, learning, writing, and etc. For Woolley and Fishbach, similar topics would include personal growth, discomfort and learning, receptivity to contradictory information, confirmation bias, and more.
Your purpose in this paper is to accurately represent key ideas from each text (the course reading and the new article you found), explain what they mean and how they compare with each other, and then focus on exploring the usefulness, limits, applications, or implications of one or two specific concepts that your 2 texts have in common.
The key elements of this paper will be (1) summarizing and representing specific, focused concepts from each article, (2) explaining and comparing their meanings and implications, and (3) unifying the paper by articulating your overall conclusions about the concept, based on the readings and your own ideas.
Your goal is to explain what we can learn about the subject you’ve chosen to focus on by synthesizing ideas from the two texts and adding your thoughts. That means that you should focus your paper on one key theme or idea, and explore how both the texts and you interpret or apply this idea. Your essay should cohere into an overall message about the usefulness or effects of your chosen concept.
