Agency budgets consist of appropriations spent and expenditures for services delivered. The approved budget becomes an important device to monitor and evaluate spending and service delivery. Budget and finance officers must constantly monitor the relationship between appropriations and expenses. Evaluating agencies assists in understanding the budgetary impact and internal infrastructure of efficiency and/or waste.
1) Compute and create tables and charts to analyze a three-year trend (2015, 2016, 2017) of selected appropriations and expenses for agencies within the Department of Homeland Security
2) Write a research paper that discusses and analyzes the relationship between appropriations and expenses.
