Part 1
Assignment Overview:
Cultural Dimensions
Explain Hofstede’s (2001) five cultural dimensions, using the text to support your explanation. Then apply the cultural dimensions to examine the culture of the country with which you most closely identify. Please add examples from your personal life to help justify your choices. Lastly, explain how the cultural dimensions with which you align might lead to conflict.
*I have attached pages from the textbook to help you with part 1 of this assignment. *
EXAMPLE:
American (U.S.) society is largely time-oriented. We care about appointments and reservations. When a friend of mine visited from Spain, she asked me to schedule a hair appointment for her for 9:30AM. At 9AM, I told her we needed to leave to make it to the appointment on time. She disregarded my prompting, saying it would be okay. This led to communication conflict, because she did not understand the importance of making the appointment on time. In Denia, Spain, where she lives, it is okay if you arrive within a 30 minute window of your appointment time.
Write 250-500 words. Submit as a docx file, using Times New Roman, 12-point font. The assignment should have header in the left-hand margin that includes: name, course #, instructor’s name, and the date the assignment is due. Include a reference page as a separate page.
Part 2:
Communication and Conflict Avoidance
Research the culture you have chosen for your final project, identifying the norms around communication within this culture.
*Below is my chosen culture proposal to help you know where to start off with this part of the assignment.*
My chosen culture project here: I would like to analyze persons with disability with a focus on physically disabled persons who use wheelchairs. I know they face several challenges and barriers to participation at the workplace or school. For example, they are likely to encounter various factors in their environment that create disability or limit their functioning, like unaccessible physical spaces that lack ramps for wheelchair use and lack of adaptive and assistive technologies. I would like to explore various ways through which workplaces and schools can limit these barriers and create conducive and safe spaces where this group can participate and interact with others. It is my wish to contribute to society by creating equal opportunities for everyone regardless of their beliefs and diversities and allow them to maximize their potentials. One of the resources that I will use is the article by Elizabeth Guffey, on Active Exclusion (Guffey, 2021).
Here is the resource that was used for the project proposal: Guffey, E. (2021, March). Active Exclusion. Places Journal. https://placesjournal.org/article/active-exclusion-disability-rights-and-accessibility-on-roosevelt-island/?cn-reloaded=1
You are welcome to add on more resources.
