Analyze and Evaluate the presentation. Evaluate the authors presentation, as distinct from your points of agreement or disagreement. Comment on the authors success in achieving his or her purpose. Consider the following:
Is the information credible and accurate? (Consider sources, examples, statistics, etc)
Is the information significant to the audience?
Has the author defined terms clearly?
Has the author used and interpreted information fairly?
Has the author argued logically
**You may provide examples or quotes from the author as you address these points.
Respond to the presentation: Is the article convincing? Provide reasons why or why not. You may consider particular examples, statistics, facts, and research sources.
Remember, its possible to agree on some points and disagree on others. Discuss your reasons for agreement or disagreement. You may expand your explanations through example, anecdote, etc.
Conclude: Re-state your conclusions about the overall validity of the article.
Revise your draft: Clarify your position in relation to the authors text. Refine and thoroughly develop you assertions, correcting any fallacies in reasoning and argument. Proofread carefully for grammatical errors, as well as missing/wrong words, sentences structure, etc.
Tone: The tone in this (and all of the essays) should be formal and academic in nature.
CAUTION: YOUR COMMENTS SHOULD BE VERY CLOSELY ALIGNED WITH THE ARTICLE AND THE AUTHORS ARGUMENT AND TECHNIQUE. BE CAREFUL THAT YOUR ESSAY DOES NOT MERELY DISCUSS THE ISSUE OF GRADING IN GENERAL.
