For most of its long history, terrorism’s impact was subnational, national, or regional. In the American psyche, the subject did not loom large. In 2000, a Gallup Poll showed 4% of Americans were “very worried” about terrorism, while another 20% reported being “somewhat worried.” In the wake of the 9/11 attacks, Americans changed how they lived and view terrorism. But can we understand terrorism? How does this happen? How and why do people become terrorists? List some of the reasons that people might become involved in terrorism.
