As you have been discovering in the Crash Course videos and your reading, media is a
huge part of your life. You are surrounded by media. You are constantly exposed to
media and consuming media. Driving down the highway you are bombarded by
billboards. Social media, internet searching, and television are all media that is consumed
on a daily basis. Most of your waking life is spent consuming media.
Write a narrative about how media impacted you as a young person (child/teenager) and
how media affects you today. I want you to especially include any early influences, such
as watching SpongeBob Square Pants or Marvel movies and believing you were a
superhero of some sort. Please include what you age you received your first phone. How
did it affect your life (or did it)? What have you discovered about your relationship to
your cell phone and to social media in general? These ideas should be the bulk of your
paper.
The goal of the assignment is to write about how media impacted you then and now. You
likely have many stories to share so you can choose the ones that stand out the most.
Implied within the assignment is the use of multiple writing modes, including narrative
(telling a story), comparing and contrasting, and cause and effect.

I received my first phone at 13. My parents did not allow me to watch youtube videos, SpongeBob. I wish my parents had waited longer to give me a phone because to would have better benefited me throughout middle school. I am going to add my own story in one of the body paragraphs.
