In adolescents (Population) what is the effect of _early screening and treatment for anxiety and depression_(Intervention) in comparison to _adult screenings__ (Comparison) on _Incident of disease (Outcome) to be completed over ____ten years______ (Time).

Adolescents (P) – I choose adolescents as my population because I work with adolescents currently and think this populations gets overlooked in health care sometimes. This population is also a good age reference for the intervention choice because adults are already the usual for screenings and children younger than this might not comprehend or be able to answer the question appropriately therefore it would be difficult to diagnose or treat anxiety and depression.

Early screening and treatment for anxiety and depression (I) – As with most disease, early diagnosis and treatment leads to optimal outcomes. Therefore early screening and treatment of anxiety and depression should lead to improved outcomes later in life which is what Feiden (2021) found in their study.

Adult screenings (C) – Screening for depression and anxiety typically starts later in life when individuals are adults, but I believe early screenings may help improve outcomes.

Incident of disease (O) – There seems to be an increase in incidence of disease later in life that correlates between individuals with anxiety and depression compared to those without. If we begin screening, and therefore treatment, as early as possible for anxiety and depression, we can set patients up for better health later in life and decrease their incidents of disease and multimorbidity. One study performed by Li et. al (2021) found that depression increases the prevalence of disease later in life in individuals with no prior comorbidities.

Ten Years (T) – We are curious for incidence of disease later in life after treatment of anxiety and depression therefore at least a decade should have passed.

Sincerely, Bridget
