This week we explore the negative effects that for-profit companies have on probation procedures. These companies collect fines and monitor individuals often accused of minor infractions. As fees begin to climb, those who already are not able to afford their fines end up incarcerated owing more money than they can ever repay, perpetuating the cycle of poverty and jail time.
