What you’ve learned on how to read proxy data, the agents causing climate change and the timescales of that change, and your explorations of the socio-economic and environmental consequences of that change you will be creating a real-world project. For this project, you will research and synthesize your findings to present it to others which may have no understanding of the topic at hand.
Imagine you are an intern at an environmental consulting company in your hometown (or nearby area). Your company received a contract from the local government to develop an action plan for understanding the effect climate change will have on the community and how the effect may be mitigated. As part of the preparation of the report your company wants YOU to give several presentations to the local community (local stakeholders who are NOT content experts; e.g. local businesses, community members) to make them aware of climate change and some of the effects it may have on the community. Your supervisor has asked you to prepare a presentation that: outlines the historical context of climate change in your area; discusses what causes climate change; outlines the regional, environmental, and socio-economic impacts of climate change; discusses possible actions the community can take; and finally discusses the outlook for the community. Your supervisor tells you that this should be a 12 – 15 minute presentation with slides, and they would like to able to load the presentation onto the internet for community members to see if they are unable to attend the meetings, so you’ll need to record yourself delivering the presentation.
