Prepare: Protection of sources is something that the profession establishes itself on. While shield laws may provide the journalist with the ability to protect sources, it is the ethical nature of the decision that as lead some journalists to either choose jail time, fines, or betray the trust of those sources. Read Chapter 6 of Jacquette (2007) that discusses protection of sources and choose one of the case studies (17, 18, or 19) in Jacquette Chapter 6 to read. Then choose two questions at the bottom of the case study on which to focus.
Reflect: Consider how you view the protection of sources and whether you agree with Jacquette’s stance.
Write: Once you have read your chosen case study and chosen a question to respond to, thoughtfully answer two of the questions at the bottom of the case study, considering what you have learned throughout this class. Your post must be a 350-400-word blog that shares with your peers your thoughts on the content of the case study.
