Linda S Unread Evidenced base practice in the hospice field is clearly define. “The Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association (HPNA) has issued a position statement that supports the use of evidence, such as practice guidelines and recommendations, reports based on evidence-based research, and clinical pathways to help inform the end-of-life care for dying individuals and their family members” (Sanders et al.;2010). To assist patients in dying a dignified death while managing their symptoms to the best of our ability in order for the patient to die comfortably is our specialty. In order for this to happen we use an interdisciplinary team to ensure all psysiological, psychosocial, and spiritual needs are being met. A great example of evidenced base practice would have to do with assessing for pain in cancer patients in a community base setting. Those started on opiates should also be started on a bowel regimen. A f/u pain assessment 48 hours after initial intervention must be made.
