Describe a relationship with the patient characterized by mutual respect, empathy, and collaboration. Illustrate a climate of patient centered care (confidentiality, privacy, comfort, emotional support, mutual trust, and respect). Consider a patient’s cultural and spiritual preferences, values, and beliefs that affect health care. Explain the importance of a patient’s control over the decision making process and negotiating a mutually acceptable plan of care. Questions: “What is not the right thing to say?” Hindsight teaches us about ourselves. Give examples of inappropriate patient-centered care.
