•Include a brief synopsis or summary of the most essential points that you are making in the Research Topic Paper (previously submitted). (previously submitted paper is uploaded in additional instructions) After reading the introduction, the reader knows the main points you must make and prepares the stage for the actual literature review. So you might want to start with two or three sentences from the introduction, background, statement of the problem, application to nursing practice, and the research PICO question. •The introduction should clearly state the rationale for the review and explain why the questions being asked are important and the significance of this to nursing. It might also mention why this review was undertaken and how it might relate to a broader review of a general problem. •A summary and statement about the next steps in this paper. 20 pts Overview of the studies •Concisely describe how the literature search was conducted, including databases and keywords used, inclusion and exclusion criteria, number of articles initially found, and description of the process of identifying articles to be used as research. •Describe how the review of the studies is organized. Is the organization by level of evidence, quality of the study, the importance of findings to the question, or by chronological order of year of publication? Explain why you organized in this format in relation to your question. •Describe what will be discussed in the next section about the studies important to understanding how the study meets the criteria for being involved in the study? 20 pts Critical appraisal of each research article •A brief introduction to this section, including the PICO question or the concepts •Use the (Grid) categories for each article. (grid is uploaded in additional instructions) •Keep a consistent format of reporting for all studies. •Each article should be no more than 10 – 12 sentences or ½ a page. 20 pts Synthesis •Description of studies as a unit – how they are alike or not alike – population, intervention, level of evidence, etc. •Methodological quality of the studies combined as a unit. •Describe how the review addresses the research question, including the intervention. Things to consider when writing the synthesis: What was similar or different among and between these studies related to your PICO clinical question? Are the interventions similar between studies? Are the outcome measures similar between studies? Are the samples and sample size similar or dissimilar between studies? Are the patients in the review studies similar to your patients? THIS QUESTION IS NOT APPLICABLE TO MY NURSING PRACTICE Show your analysis about the studies and draw a conclusion 10 Discussion Summary of findings What gaps or inconsistencies in knowledge does the literature review uncover? Draw a conclusion Strengths of this literature Review Limitation of this review 10 Conclusion Implications for practice Discussion on how the implications relate back to the purpose
