Would the United States be “better off” if only one campaign finance law existed: i.e., a ban on businesses donating directly to candidates and the campaigns of candidates?
Should the United States return to having just one campaign finance law (Tillman Act of 1907): prohibiting businesses from donating directly to 1) candidates, 2) candidate campaign committees, and 3) political parties?
This paper will represent both sides of the argument, as follows.
1) Identify the strongest argument for repealing every campaign finance law except for the Tillman Act of 1907 and explain why it is stronger than the arguments against repealing every campaign finance law except for the Tillman Act of 1907.
2) Identify the strongest argument against repealing every campaign finance law except for the Tillman Act of 1907 and explain why it is stronger than the arguments for repealing every campaign finance law except for the Tillman Act of 1907.
