Prepare: The crux of journalism is to always present information that is objective and is void of bias. If that it is the well-known responsibility of journalists, it may seem strange that we would need to engage in a conversation about ethical practices in this area. However, because the field is so saturated with different modes of communicating information, it is definitely an area that we must pay close attention to. In Chapter 8, the textbook covers may aspects of objectivity, perspective, and bias.
Reflect: After reading Chapter 8 in Journalist Ethics (Jacquette, 2007), think about a recent news story where you believe the journalist violated ethical codes when it came to objectivity, perspective and bias.
Write: Once you have chosen a recent story to analyze, write a 250- to 300-word blog that shares your analysis with your peers. View the Formatting Stories and Blogs Download Formatting Stories and Blogs document for assistance with formatting your blog.
