Purpose: to provide students with an opportunity to explore the numerous consumer healthcare-related websites and device applications available for patients on a selected healthcare condition. Locate websites that contain reliable, accurate, and relevant information that can be used for your own learning and to educate patients. Create a Power Point presentation you would use to instruct a group of nurses on the information they need to use to educate their patients about the disease process, mobile applications to support their management of the disease, and how to tell quality from poor websites they can use to reinforce and further explore information about their condition.
You do not have to provide voiceover narration for your PP presentation, but you will be expected to include narrative notes on each slide that reflect the scriipt you would use to do the actual presentation. You access the notes section on the slide by clicking on at the bottom of the slide page. Prepare the scriipt as if you are speaking with a group of nurses who care for patients with the chosen condition. See the example slide presentation provided for an example of how to create your own presentation.
Model your presentation like the example slides provided once you have chosen which healthcare-related condition you will explore
Create information slides about the chosen topic using information found on quality healthcare-related websites (not scholarly articles) including:
definition of condition
facts/statistics if available
risk factors for developing the condition
signs/symptoms
treatments
complications
prevention measures
Create slides, describing two mobile apps a patient could use to help manage the condition and include:
the developer
where the app is available for dowload
the services it provides patients
an image (screen shot) of the open app
Choose two good-quality websites about the condition and place them on a two content slide with the following information:
website title
link to the page containing content about the condition
Evaluate websites based off the questions in the Medline Plus Evaluating Internet Health Information Checklist (provided above and also as an attachment)
Choose two poor-quality websites about the condition and place them on a two content slide with the following information:
website title
link to the page containing content about the condition
Evaluate websites based off the questions in the Medline Plus Evaluating Internet Health Information Checklist (provided above and also as an attachment)
Provide citations in APA format on all of your slides that include content about the condition
Refer to your sources for content in the narrative notes when you discuss the content – see example slides
Provide a reference slide for those content sources in APA format (there should be at least 2 quality websites that make up your reference list)
You should create the reference list in a Word document to include required italics and hanging indentation, then copy and paste them in picture format into the reference slide below the title – this will preserve the format that can’t be created within the slide program itself
