Categorical Dimension: African American in USA
Definition of Discrimination: Becker Taste Discrimination (Attached)
Remember, you are not writing an essay. You are writing an OUTLINE!
OUTLINE Instruction:
Structural Motivation
The outline can also help the author figure out the structure of the paper before they get too far along the writing process. It is easier to play around with different orders one might use (e.g., should section 4 come before or after section D?) at the outline stage. Once the paper sections are proto-drafted, it can be tougher to explore changes in the structure.
Outline Format
People mean many things by the term “outline” but what I mean is the following:
I. Main Idea 1
A. Supporting idea 1 for Main idea 1
B. Supporting idea 2 for Main idea 1
1. Supporting info 1 for Supporting idea 2 of Main idea 1
2. Supporting info 2 for Supporting idea 2 of Main idea 1
3. Supporting info 3 for Supporting idea 2 of Main idea 1
II. Main Idea 2
A. Supporting idea 1 for Main idea 2
1. Supporting info 1 for Supporting idea 1 of Main idea 2
2. Supporting info 2 for Supporting idea 1 of Main idea 2
B. Supporting idea 2 for Main idea 2
1. Supporting info 1 for Supporting idea 2 of Main idea 2
2. Supporting info 2 for Supporting idea 2 of Main idea 2
a. ~~~~~~~~~~
b. ~~~~~~~~~~
i. ~~~~~~~~~~~
ii. ~~~~~~~~~~
Please note: There cannot be an I without at least a II, nor an A under a given roman numeral unless there’s at least a B under that same roman numeral, nor a 1 under a capitalized alphabetic character unless there is at least a 2 under that same alphabetic character, and so on. In other words, the minimum number of entries at each level of indentation is two. If you only have one entry at a given level of indentation, you can’t make that entry at that level–you have to find a second entry to make at that level or you have to restructure so the one entry you want to make can go someplace else within the rules.
Please write an outline for the essay topic below:

What to do in the paper?
1)Identify a categorical dimension = African American in USA
2)Show which, if any, of the following definitions of discrimination:
B)Becker taste discrimination
would see that categorical dimension as a site of discrimination. (NOTE: It may be helpful to have selected a dimensional category that you can show that at least one discrimination definition can see as a site of discrimination).
The above concerns the theoretical case
but sometimes empirical research does not confirm the theory!
The next sections of your paper will consider the empirical research findings
3)Use solid research in the literature, critically consider whether the empirical evidence shows that the group is or is not harmed by discrimination, using AT LEAST ONE of the definitions above that you have shown would theoretically see the categorical dimension as a site of discrimination
4A)If the empirical literature shows that the group is harmed by discrimination:
For each definition of discrimination for which you can say one or more groups are harmed, suggest what policy or policies might address that harm. Please make sure each policy you suggest makes sense with the specific discrimination definition at issue. (Note: One policy may address discrimination as defined by multiple theories of discrimination. But, that is not always the case.)
4B)If the empirical literature does not show that the group is harmed by discrimination:
Assess whether you think that result is true (it very well may be), or, instead, is a result of the limitations of our research. For each answer please provide good reasons why you think one way or the other. And, if you believe the findings are a result of our research limitations, please suggest what we should do to conduct better research that will be able to generate more confidence in the findings.
